摘要

ICD-9-CM自1979年1月1日正式被廣泛地使用，在我國健保醫療費用申報上也佔有重要的地位，然近20~30年間，疾病型態與醫療科技均已變動不少，故目前多數已開發的國家，其死因統計或疾病統計已陸續採行ICD-10，以利與國際健康統計資料進行比較。
我國醫療體系的發展，當中有許多是以美國經驗爲借鏡，所以行政院衛生署在未來的政策上亦考慮將ICD-10-CM的推廣，列爲重要的施政項目之一，以落實我國衛生事務國際化，確切掌握國際健康資訊脈動。預計再過數年，我國將會與美國一樣，把疾病分類的標準工具由現行的ICD-9-CM轉變爲ICD-10-CM/PCS，故關心我國醫療衛生走向的人員應即早了解此一分類體系概念。

Its predecessor, ”The International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification” or ICD-9-CM, was officially adopted here in Taiwan on January 1, 1979 and has since been employed widely as a key guide for making medical cost claims in our healthcare insurance system. However, many changes took place in the disease patterns as well as healthcare technologies over the past three decades. That is why nowadays most developed countries, including the United States, have gradually adopted ICD-10 for their death cause and disease statistics in particular in order to be able to make a comparison with international health statistic data.
As we are all fully aware that many developments in the history of Taiwan's healthcare system were merely follow-ups of footsteps of the United States and based on mainly American experiences. This is no exception that in its current policy planning, Department of Health is pondering over the idea of promoting the ICD-10-CM as one of its next important administrative objectives. The purpose is to facilitate the globalization of Taiwan's health affairs by more accurately grabbing and understanding the pulses of international health information. Within a few years, Taiwan will eventually follow the lead of the United Sates and replace the current standard tool, ICD-9-CM, with ”The International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification/Procedure Coding System” or ICD-10-CM/PCS. Therefore, people concerning with the future path direction of Taiwan 's medical and health world should familiarize themselves as soon as possible with the concept of this new c1assification system.
