This article discloses the nursing experience of caring for a 39-year-old Vietnamese new immigrant diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The nursing period took place from December 26th, 2018 to March 22th, 2019. At the time of diagnosis, the issues she faced included disease ignorance, concerns regarding follow-up care, the cost of transnational bone marrow transplantation and a language barrier. The health issues were identified, which included protection ineffectiveness, knowledge-enhanced readiness and anxiety. Caring proficiency was therefore implemented to assist the patient, with the intervention providing nursing guidance- related translations by volunteer interpreters that alleviated the patient's concerns. Through graphic explanations and the social worker team assistance, the younger brother was able to come to Taiwan to enable completion of bone marrow-matching procedures with financial assistance. Meanwhile, we also sought to invite other patients to share their own experience and give positive feedback. In conclusion, we share this valuable nursing experience where the language barrier could be alleviated by involvement of translation volunteers and social workers, which in turn led to patient acceptance of the remedy for the disease.
