This article presents a 76-year-old, third-degree atrioventricular block patient who received permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation. Nursing care was instituted from March 16(superscript th), 2006 to March 21(superscript st), 2006. The author used Gordon 11-item functional health pattern as a guide to identify and assess patient's problems, such as activity intolerance, anxiety, and knowledge deficit. During the nursing process, the author provided treatment and support to the patient through listening, caring, and humanistic nursing skills; established good relationship with the patient and the family; gave the patient the instructions of home care for PPM; relieved the patient's and his family's physical discomfort and anxiety; and also let the patient and his family understand the whole treatment process and the follow-up self-care plan and work.
