Reflection is regarded as an imperative issue in nursing education as reflection can improve the ability of critical thinking in students. Reflective writing is a strategy to attain reflection. Clinical journal writing is the most common method of reflective writing. This article aimed to elucidate the definition and the process of reflection, as well as the methods of reflective journal writing in practicum. The authors illustrated how to guide students in reflective journaling as a teacher by exemplifying with a reflective journal assignment which had been implemented in the course of fundamental nursing practicum of a university. Through the reflective journal writing, students improved their self-awareness, problem solving ability, and critical thinking. (Tzu Chi Nursing Journal, 2012; 11:1, 66-71)
