Dysosmia treated with Western and Chinese Medicine A Case Report

This case is a 52-year-old woman. After catching a cold in 105/5, the patient found that she could not smell anything apart from sesame oil. Steroid and Xiao Qing Long Tang are prescribed, and the patient regained part of the olfactory function within 10 days when it took 52.4 days to regain olfactory function using steroid exclusively. Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine may shorten the course of recovery time. Upper respiratory tract infection is one of the causes of dysosmia. The commonly used clinical medicine is steroid therapy, and there is currently no effective treatment for this disease. Many studies have pointed out that TCM treatment can improve the symptoms of olfactory disorders and improve the quality of life, but few literatures mention the effectiveness of combined treatment of TCM and Western medicine. This article aims to explore the efficacy of combined treatment of steroid and Chinese medical intervention. Furthermore, we also discuss whether the same treatment can apply to the olfactory disturbance induced by COVID-19.
