This study examines factors influencing student college choice assisting postsecondary institutions to recruit students more effectively. The study focuses on the choice stage, which is the last of the three-stage college-choice process. To understand how students select their institution, a survey instrument was adapted from Simmons’1997 study of Marquette University. In June 2002, the survey was administered to the 200 freshmen who were admitted through the recommendation process to a private university in northern Taiwan. The survey asked respondents to assign numerical ratings to 23 statements regarding the university’s characteristics. The data from the survey were then statistically analyzed, and the two most important factors affecting respondents’ choice of college were identified as attractive campus and adequate security. To examine these two factors, both the t test and one-way ANOVA were used. Of the five demographic variables, only gender reflected significant difference regarding college choice, the selected university, can identify and utilize primary factors in their students’ college-choice process to meet students’ demands.
