Thrombocytosis is a condition in which the platelet counts exceed the upper limit of normal range. Patients with thrombocytosis may have increased risk of thrombosis and embolism. Besides, thrombocytosis is frequently associated with platelet dysfunction which could increase bleeding tendency. Considering its possible complications, pilots diagnosed with thrombocytosis need in-depth assessment during aeromedical evaluation. In our current aeromedical guideline, qualification standards for platelet count were established but the wavier criteria for thrombocytosis were sparsely mentioned. In this article, we briefly introduced thrombocytosis and discussed the aeromedical concerns of this disease. Furthermore, current aeromedical wavier guides and standards of different countries were discussed. We hope this article can be used as a reference in the future for the development of our own aeromedical wavier guide.
