The SEM Comparative Study on Toe Pads among 11 Species of Tree Frogs from Taiwan

十一種台灣產樹蛙吸盤形態之比較

摘要


本研究以掃描式電子顯微鏡(Scanning electron microscope)之技術,對台灣地區樹蟾科(Hylidae)之中國樹蟾(Hyla chinensis)以及樹蛙科(Rhacophoridae)之台北樹蛙(Rhacophorus taipeianus)、翡翠樹蛙(Rhacophorus smaragdinus)、莫氏樹蛙(Rhacophorus moltrechti)、橙腹樹蛙(Rhacorus aurantiventris)、諸羅樹蛙(Rhacophorus arvalis)、白頷樹蛙(Polypedates megacephalus)、褐樹蛙(Buergeria robustus)、日本樹蛙(Buergeria japonicas)、艾氏樹蛙(Chirixalus eiffingeri)及面天樹蛙(Chirixalus idiootocus)等共11種樹蛙,比較其吸盤形態上的差異。另外,以赤蛙科(Ranidae)之斯文豪氏蛙(Rana swinhoana)和拉都希氏蛙(Rana latouchi)指趾形態當比對。掃描式電子顯微鏡分析結果顯示:吸盤形狀以圓型居多,吸盤最外上皮層細胞可分成五角形、六角形及七角形等三種形狀,而以六角形柱狀細胞最易觀察到。吸盤上的凹溝可區分成:環溝(Circumferential groove)、側溝(Lateral groove)、橫溝(Transverse groove)及縱溝(Vertical groove)。十一種樹蛙在吸盤最表面外層無黏液孔構造,但在赤蛙科(Ranidae)的斯文豪氏蛙(Rana swinhoana)和拉都希氏蛙(Rana latouchi)則具有黏液孔。最後我們討論吸盤形態構造跟樹蛙吸附能力間的關係。

We compared the toe pads of Rhacophoridae and Hylidae tree frogs from Taiwan by scanning electron microscopy. Fifty-five specimens from 11 species representing 5 genera of these 2 families were examined. In addition, two species of Ranidae and one of Microhylidae were also compared. The results indicate that all 11 treefrogs species always had round-shaped toe pads and that the epidermal cells on the toes of tree frogs are specialized columnar cells and hexagonal in shape. The same pattern of circumferential groove and transverse groove on toe pads were found among all members of Rhacophorus, but the lateral groove was absent. The absence of a transverse furrow in Buergeria species can be used to distinguish these frogs from other Rhacophoridae. Round-shaped toe pad, circumferential groove and columnar cells were observed in Hyla chinensis. There was no mucous pore visible on the outermost epidermis of any treefrog. However, mucous pores were distributed over entire surface of the digital tips in Ranidae and Microhylidae. No groove was visible. Morphology and density of mucous pores on the pads are discussed.
