This paper is to explore and examine how two literary issues, narrative and affective, are associated in Chen Da-Wei's poetry. Despite the issue of narrative in his historical writing has been the locus of heated debates by critics, I argue that the affective, an issue that largely ignored by contemporary literature studies, which is equally important in Chen's work. Through the writing of daily living, local memories, spatial imagination and the emotional experience, Chen's literary work helps shed light and reveal on the historical identity, inner sustenance of subjectivity and the moments being. By analyzing the mutual overlapping mapping of the characteristic of narrative and affective in his poetry, it is concluded here that the affective response, and connection between narrators/narratives and readers in different historical time are constructed and linked.
