A Case of a Bladder Diverticulum Incidentally Finding on PET/CT

Bladder diverticula can express many problems associated with their locations. Acute renal failure, trauma, bladder rupture, fistula formation, and infection are at increased risks by bladder diverticula. It is generally asymptomatic and found incidentally on positron emission tomography (PET)/CT images. A 79-year-old man with cutaneous B-cell lymphoma was assessed [^(18)F]-2-deoxy-2-(^(18)F)fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) PET/CT scan for follow-up. In PET images, there was an unexpected bulging pouch intense [^(18)F]FDG uptake at right anterior aspect of urinary bladder. It was considered to be a metastasis of his cancer at first. But, correlation finding of PET images to concurrent CT data revealed it to be a bladder diverticulum. Besides, we found the right anterior aspect of urinary bladder has the similar data to the maximum of standard uptake value (SUV_(max)) as the bladder activity (SUV_(max)=10.93) and is consistent with a bladder diverticulum (SUV_(max)=11.02). Presented case demonstrates the possibility of misinterpreting PET images without combining relevant CT data. Therefore, it is important to combine analysis of PET and CT data in the interpretation of integrated PET/CT images to reveal the correct diagnosis.
