A Case of Sentinel Lymph Node Identification by Hybrid SPECT/CT with Breast Cancer

A 27-year-old female with history of infiltrating intraduct of the right breast underwent lymphoscintigraphy (LS) for preoperative sentinel lymph node (SLN) localization. LS was performed after subcutaneous injection of 5 mCi (185 MBq) of ^(99m)Tc-phytate in peri-areolar area. The planar images and SPECT/CT study showed there is focal tracer accumulation in the super-lateral aspect of right breast, which were interpreted as consistent with axillary SLN. Moreover, the fused SPECT/CT images provide additional information for anatomical location of SLN. The next day, the patient underwent gamma probe-guided surgery to identify and remove the SLN, and the results of sentinel lymph node biopsy were negative for malignancy.
