南海爭端一直是中國與菲律賓在發展關係上的不利因素之一。雖然中菲關係持續在改善，但菲律賓對於崛起中的中國可能帶來區域上的不確定性仍不免擔心。隨著對中國警戒心的增加，南海的緊張局勢也跟著升高。南海爭端是如何影響菲律賓與中國的關係，而他們在雙邊關係的發展上能夠突破南海爭端所帶來的侷限嗎？
