You Still Don't Get It: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Discrimination Against Taiwan's Indigenous Peoples in David Loman 2

摘要


2016年,強檔賀歲喜劇「大尾鱸鰻2」在台上映,並再次創下票房佳績。正當該片因賣座而受到各方關注的同時,這部影片卻引發了歧視原住民族的爭議。由於本片播映當時正值「原住民族歷史正義與轉型正義」的最高峰,它所引發的歧視爭議也被認為具有指標性的意義。有鑑於本案的重要性,本文嘗試透過「批判論述分析」(critical discourse analysis; CDA),來對「大尾鱸鰻2」爭議進行解讀,並嘗試透過理論的檢證來釐清本案之所以引發歧視爭議的原因。誠如CDA所言,當代的歧視態樣早已不再以直接歧視為主,而是以更加細微的方式出現。這也連帶使得既有分析工具不再能有效識別並處理這類「幽微種族主義」(subtle racism)下的歧視類型。本文指出,有鑑於歧視問題涉及到語言、表達等面向,實有必要透過語言學相關的研究典範來加以檢視。對此,本文把每次爭議都視為社會對話的契機,強調吾人必須透過這個機會,重新檢視、商榷、進而辯論既定標準,以便扭轉社會對少數與弱勢的刻板印象。唯有如此,未來才能減低歧視發生並降低誤解的可能。對本文而言,這也是CDA對本土議題最大的啟發。

This study employs Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to investigate discrimination against Taiwan's indigenous peoples in a one-minute long scene from the film, David Loman 2. A description of the scene is firstly provided to allow a contextualization in the debate about ideological construction of racism in the film. This is followed by an elaboration of the principles of CDA which allows readers to follow analytical analysis of discriminatory aspects of the scene. Finally, narrative data gathered from interviews with key stakeholders are presented as a supplement to the in-depth discourse analysis of specific utterances by the film director, made in the aftermath of the media incident regarding allegations of racism. The study concludes with a discussion about possible solutions to reduce the recurrence of stigma and prejudice against Taiwan's indigenous peoples in media.
