Knowledge, Atitude and Practice toward Hand Hygiene among Health Care Workers in a General Hospital

摘要

Nosocomial infection may result in prolongation of hospital stay and increase of morbidity and mortality of patients. Hand-washing is widely accepted as the most important measure in control of nosocomial infection. This study investigated the knowledge, attitude and practice for hand hygiene in health care workers of one general hospital in Taiwan. The results revealed that there were statistically significant differences in knowledge, attitude and practice of hand hygiene between nurses and doctors (P＜0.05), and that the ”Hawthorne effect” was an existing condition during the supervising procedure. We recommend that repeated quality control cycle, remind by patients, education and checking program were effective measures to improve the compliance of hand-washing for health care workers.
