在當前消費時代社會中,大量生產與消費對環境造成極大的負擔。環境教育目標在於培養具有行動力的負責任公民,以達到永續發展的社會,其中消費正是環境行動的一環。本研究回顧永續消費者運動發展歷程與內涵,以環境教育觀點,反思推動永續消費的阻礙,並提出推動永續消費教育的原則,以培養社會大眾永續的價值觀與行動力。 當代社會的消費行為受到發展主義意識型態影響,其基本假設為視發展為社會進步的象徵,將消費限於商品交換的過程,並未對消費背後的價值觀、對文化與地方社群影響進行反思,此為永續消費推動的阻礙。透過環境教育的批判觀點,本文提出永續消費教育應當反思當代經濟意識,擴大永續消費的定義至社會、文化面向,喚醒消費者的公民意識,培養民主對話與行動能力,促使消費者連結夥伴關係,產生集體行動,創造超越經濟數字的社會價值。環境教育的貢獻在於提供更寬闊的永續消費定義與行動策略,使個人由消費者轉化為公民的價值轉變。
In the age of consumerism, mass production and consumption exhaust the natural resources of our world. One goal of environmental education is to achieve a sustainable society through the individual and collective actions of a responsible environmental citizenry. This paper reviews the history of sustainable consumer movement, provides a broader view of sustainable consumption, and suggests some principles of promoting sustainable consumption education. At the present time, sustainable consumerism is still influenced by a contemporary attitude of continual development and does not criticize the value system and social impact of consumerism. From the viewpoint of critical environmental education, this paper suggest that sustainable consumerism should (1) reflect contemporary ideology of ongoing development; (2) broaden sustainable consumerim to its social and cultural dimensions; (3) awaken consumers' citizen consciousness; (4) cultivate democratic dialogue followed by an action competence; (5) encourage partnership between consumers and producers. Environmental education not only provides a broader definition and action strategies for sustainable consumerism, but also promotes individuals to move from consumers toward sustainable citizens.
