Objectives: Gaining experience in the operating room (OR) is a great need for all new staff members. In this study, we designed a teaching model with the aim of helping new OR staff meet the job requirements and adjusting themselves to the work environment at an early time. Materials and Methods: This study used sell administered surveys to evaluate new staff members before, immediately after, and 1 week after the teaching class. Results: Survey responses were obtained from 91 new staff members. We found that the trainee performance scores were low before the class started; after the class, significant improvements in performance scores were observed. However, the performance scores declined again 1 week after the classes had ended. A trainee s background was a predictor of performance scores (p<0.05). Trainees were highly satisfied with the teaching method and teaching contents; however, the examination method may need further improvements. Conclusions: By sharing work experiences and adopting multimedia technology, we believe we can further enhance our teaching methods for new staff members to provide them the necessary knowledge in a timely manner to work in the OR.
