The aim of our project was to increase the precise rate of hand washing among foreign home-caregivers. The Yang-Ming home care institute designed a multi-language, standardized hand washing procedure. A total of 88 foreign home-caregivers accepted a serial of educational programs and were monitored before and after intervention by homecare nurses from 2011 to 2012. We found the correct rate of hand washing was 83.25% at initial and became 88.40% after intervention. The incidence rates of respiratory tract and urinary tract infection of the home cared patients were 3.17% and 1.72% at initial and dropped to 1.36% and 1.52% at final. The intervention improved the precise hand washing rate and infection incidence rate of the home cared patients. The intervention improved health care quality provided by foreign home-caregivers.
