Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a popular non-western medical care in Taiwan and represents an important type of medical care in Taiwan. Cancer patients often seek help from TCM, expecting to relieve the side effects of conventional treatments and improve their constitution. TCM has a long history of experiences and approaches in cancer treatment, and evidence has confirmed its benefits. Cancer patients think TCM benefits illness control, body function improvement, and disease prevention and choose TCM according to their experiences and beliefs. TCM can assist conventional medical treatment in tumor control and alleviation of side effects, enable the completion of cancer treatment regimens, and complement Western medicine. However, the risk of herb-drug interaction should be carefully assessed, and the quality of Chinese medicine should be strictly regulated to avoid adverse reactions. Thus, to improve the quality of TCM in cancer care, its application should be evidence-based, and the communication and education between the two systems should be strengthened.
