黃朝翰與廖建裕分別擔任東亞研究所的學術主任(Research Director)及華裔館的館長,他們的研究以及主導該單位的人與事對於整個機構乃至於新加坡的中國學研究有著動見觀瞻的影響。本研究意圖從離散理論的視角出發,藉由比較黃朝翰與廖建裕的中國研究來探究新加坡對中國認識的兩種可能途徑。研究結果發現:黃朝翰的中國研究軌跡其實也正是東亞所轉型前後的學術脈絡,東亞所的研究以務實的中國政治經濟研究爲主;廖建裕則是從關懷華人的角度出發,進行以中國爲文化根源的中國歷史研究,兩者看似差異頗大,其實都是華裔離群透過不同方式與可能性對文化母國的一種想望,同時也能代表當代新加坡華裔離群認識中國的兩種可能途徑。
Professor John Wong and Leo Suryadinata is the president of EAI and CHC separately. Their researches impact deeply to their institutions. The main focus of this essay is to find an approach of Singaporean China Study by comparative studying. The result of the paper is that the research of EAI focus on the political-economy of contemporary China. But the research of CHC was mainly discussed Chinese history. There are obvious differences between EAI and CHC, but they actually show what their inspiration to home country. This article adopts the perspective of the diasporic theory to analyze the key figure of EAI and CHC.
