This study investigated whether Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) could facilitate the learning of English vocabulary of beginning foreign language learners. Eighty primary school students in an English summer camp were equally divided into four classes and exposed to two different learning conditions: Conventional learning vs. CALL. The control group (40 students) was exposed to conventional learning. The experimental group (40 students) was exposed to picture-sound association of words approach, where they were required to match words to corresponding pictures. After the treatment, both groups were evaluated on a vocabulary recognition task (i.e., matching words to corresponding pictures) and their scores were compared. The results of the study showed that the experimental group scored higher than the control group both on the post-test and the retention test.
