Family conference is an effective method for communicating among the health care team members, the patient and families. It is a meeting in discussions concerning the patient's illness, treatment and care plans, prognosis and their expectations. It aims to exchange information, improve communication and consensus. This article explores the definition, functions and purpose of the family conference, and the process steps of conducting a family conference for reference to the clinicians' practice.
