This study uses aerial photo interpretation data to analyze the change of Kandelia distribution in Kuantu Nature Reserve from 1978 to 2006. Results indicate the total area of Kandelia is rapidly increasing from scattered individuals in 1978 to 33.01 ha in 2006. The long-term extension of distribution area shows a step-like model, and vegetation composition tends to be dominated by Kandelia. Based on the analysis of long-term change of mangrove distribution in the study area, mangrove partial deforestation issue is also discussed.
