Balance is the foundation of human motion development and is closely related to all kinds of daily activities. Besides the intellectual impairment, people with intellectual disabilities also have poorer performance on motion development and postural control comparing to healthy individuals. In this article, the balance control of individuals with intellectual disabilities was explored. The content including the mechanism of balance, balance performance of individuals with intellectual disabilities, potential factors that influence their balance and the effects of exercise program on balance control were discussed respectively. The results showed that intervention programs for individual with intellectual disabilities were likely to improve their balance control and life quality. Relevant researches are needed to enhance balance control in individuals with intellectual disabilities in different age groups and different level of disability.
