Dental autotransplantation is defined as the movement of one tooth from one position to another, within the same person. The treatment does not interfere with the orofacial growth, is cost effective and allows for rapid recovery of function and aesthetics. Therefore, tooth autotransplantation could be considered as an alternative to dental implant for missing teeth in growing patient. This report presents an autotransplantation of a mesiodens to traumatic lost mandibular incisors. A 12-year-old boy fell from his bicycle and lost his right permanent mandibular central and lateral incisors (tooth 41, 42). The avulsed mandibular lateral incisor was replaced with his mesiodens and root canal treatment of the mesiodens was initiated at the same time. After stabilization, the crown of the transplant was restored with composite resin and the space of mandibular central incisor was maintained with a removable denture. After 16 months follow-up, the transplant showed good aesthetics and prognosis. The indication, technique and prognosis of autotransplantation are addressed as well.
