Although immigration has occurred for several centuries, in more recent times the phenomena of globalization and the world-wide circulation of capital have facilitated an increasing amount of transnational immigration. In the social reformation of a nation-state, such immigration has a profound role, the influence of which has already been evaluated in the literature. However, the vital role of eventual citizenship for immigrants has received less attention. This article advocates a type of participation in the ”right” kind of social stratification for immigrants, one which changes the emphasis towards morality. The aim of this article is to pose pertinent questions with regard to paths toward citizenship for immigrants and offer suggestions for expeditious implementation
