The objective of this study was to improve home care instruction of patients after outpatient gynecological surgery, and to establish a standard for post-surgery home care instruction of outpatients, in order to enhance the self-care ability of patients after they return home. We conducted a field survey to learn how recovery room nursing staff provided post-surgery instruction, and found a 50% completion rate of post-surgery home-care instruction, which indicated that nursing staff did not instruct patients completely. A task force modified the instruction sheet for post-surgery home care, established a comprehensive care guideline standard, organized on-job-training and made checklists for surgery-recovery room transfer and quality monitoring items. This way, nursing staff was given a basis in accordance with which care nursing instuction could be provided, after which the care instruction completion rate increased from 50% to 85%, which indicated that the above methods could enhance the comprehensiveness of instruction so that patients can get personalized, comprehensive and continuous care.
