The Impact of Leader's Characters on the Strategy of Market Entry and Performance

Internationalization and liberalization of business activities have become two of the most significant phenomena for the successful operations of contemporary enterprises. Taiwanese firms have been undergoing significant changes in business environment. The costs of labor and land have been increasing rapidly. In addition, under the impact of governmental policies of internationalization and liberalization, the amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) by Taiwanese firms has grown enormously. However, most of these firms going abroad belong to medium size corporations. In comparison with some giant international companies, Taiwanese firms lack relevant resources capabilities. This study aims to exam the effect of senior managers' characters on the strategy of market entry choice and its performance. Data came from 114 senior managers of public listed companies in Taiwan Stock Market. It is found that the age of senior manager is weakly related to market entry choice. However, education level of senior manager is not significantly related to market entry choice. Moreover, performance is not significantly associated with market entry choice. Finally, some suggestions relating management theory and practice are provided for further research.
