The Relationship between Isokinetic Strength and Freestyle Sprint Performance in Different Level Swimmer-Illustrated by Taiwan Normal University Swimming Team

摘要

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between isokinetic strength and 25M freestyle sprint time in different level swimmer. Methods: Sixteen male swimmers (8 swimmers of open division and 8 swimmers of general division) voluntarily participated in this study. All subjects performed 25M freestyle sprint. The subjects also performed five maximal extension and flexion efforts (shoulder, elbow, hip and knee at angular velocity of 60 and 180°/s) under concentric conditions. Pearson Product Moment Correlation analyses were conducted to determine the relationships between the peak torque and 25M freestyle sprint time. The significance level was set at α=.05. Results: The results of this study found that there are significant relationships between isokinetic strength of open division swimmers (shoulder, elbow and knee) at angular velocity of 60°/s and 25M freestyle sprint (p<.05). Significant relationship between isokinetic strength of general division swimmers (elbow) at angular velocity of 60°/s and 25M freestyle sprint was evident (p<.05). In addition, no significant difference on relatively isokinetic strength (joule/kg) between open and general division (p>.05). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that dynamic strength of open division swimmers is more important than dynamic power for sprint performance. However, these were not evidence on isokinetic strength of general division swimmers.
