青少年參與老人機構代間服務學習課程之效益

Benefits of Participating in an Intergenerational Service Learning Program in a Senior Home for Teenagers

摘要


目的:在現代社會中,許多青少年缺乏與年長者溝通互動的學習機會,容易產生代間差距。本研究透過代間課程安排,讓青少年首先能同理老年人之身心變化,進而能創意發想與老年人互動之遊戲,主要目的為觀察青少年參與結構化代間課程之效益。方法:代間課程內容,設計涵括四項主軸:一、老化的身體與心理變化之知識學習;二、高齡者模擬體驗;三、失能老年人服務學習活動;四、創意互動遊戲設計與執行。資料蒐集包括半結構化問卷及團體會談,以瞭解每位青少年在參與代間課程及服務學習過程之經驗。統計會執行描述性統計、問卷與會談紀錄分析。結果:23位來自國高中的青少年(15.9±1.8歲;14位女性)及21位居住在老人機構的老年人(82.8±8.5歲;13位女性)參與此計畫。本研究結果發現青少年參與代間課程後,有以下效益:一、能同理老化的身體侷限障礙;二、學習協助失能老年人的技巧與方式;三、能以正向態度與老年人互動溝通;四、個人對於生命價值及家庭觀念的成長。結論:本短期代間服務學習教育課程能有效增進青少年近距離與老年人互動之機會,有益於跨越青少年與老年人之代間差距。

Objectives: In modern society, teenagers have less opportunity to learn how to communicate with elderly people. This present study aimed to explore the benefits of participating in an intergenerational program for teenagers. Methods: A designed intergenerational program includes four major themes: knowledge of aging physical and mental changes, experience of aging simulation, service learning for elderly with disability, and interactive game with elderly. All participants need to complete the semi-structured questionnaires and group interview. Descriptive statistics and the records of interviews were analyzed. Results: Twenty-three teenagers (15.9±1.8yr.; 14 female) from junior and senior high school and 21 elderly people (82.8±8.5yr.; 13 female) from senior home participated in this program. The interview analyses revealed the following results (1) understanding age-related physical impairment after aging simulation, (2) learning how to assist elders with disability from service learning, (3) building two-way communication with positive attitude, and (4) personal conceptual growth of cherishing life and family. Conclusion: This short-term intergenerational program successfully provides the opportunity and service learning for teenagers to interact closely with elderly people across intergenerational gap.
