Chronic hepatitis B is the major cause of hepato-cellular carcinoma with high prevalence in Taiwan. There is no curative method in Western medicine for chronic hepatitis B currently. Maintainence therapy is a combination of liver protection, anti-fibrosis, anti-viral therapy, prevention of hepatocellular carcinoma along with treatment of complications. However, the effect of symptomatic treatment worsens with time. Base on theory of traditional Chinese medicine, we treated this patient with concentrated Chinese herb powder to significant improvement in symptoms and liver function tests. This case report demonstrated that were observed traditional Chinses medicine could be another treatment option for chronic hepatitis B with acute exacerbation.
