Primary spontaneous pneumothorax is common in young male adults. Those who have secondary spontaneous pneumothorax, are tall and thin, or continuously smoke are prone to disease recurrence. It is suggested that spontaneous recurrent patients undergo pleurodesis or video-assisted thoracic surgery to avoid further recurrence. This case is about a 68-year-old man, suffering from several recurrences of spontaneous pneumothorax, who was hospitalized to undergo pigtail catheter thoracostomy and observation. During his third hospitalization for conservative treatment, he couldn't be free of the symptoms. After two weeks of Chinese medicine intervention, the symptoms including dyspnea and chest tightness improved, and he was discharged. We demonstrate the experience in this case report for clinical reference and application.
