Psychiatric nurses must have undertaken huge stress from work since they carried unusual workload and duties. However, we also know job stress can cause serious effects to our physical and mental health. Numerous studies have proved that good health is positively associated to good adaptation skills to workplace. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between stress and leisure focused on the psychiatric nurses whose job stress, leisure coping strategy, leisure participation, physical and mental health situation could result in their physical and mental health. Through convenience sampling, 216 valid samples were collected. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the model, and the finding indicated an acceptably fit to the proposed model. The results of the research, thus, can be concluded as follows: (1) Job stress would produce a negative influence to a psychiatric nurse's health (path coefficient -0.28). (2) Leisure coping strategy appeared to bring leisure participation a positive effect (path coefficient 0.30). (3) Leisure participation to a psychiatric nurse's health is significantly positive (path coefficient 0.41). The so-called positive effects coming from leisure participation and coping strategies can buffer the negative impacts caused by job stress on a psychiatric nurse's health. The study suggests that psychiatric nurses should increase their leisure participating frequency to reduce negative effects from occupational stress to their health.
