Psychiatric patients often experience high comorbidity because of medication side effects and poor self-care ability, requiring nursing staff to attend to both acute and chronic physical or mental health issues. Instances of delayed medical interventions, resulting from unfamiliarity with instrument operation procedures, have occurred within the unit at the institution this study examined. A situational analysis indicated that the main reasons for low accuracy in instrument operation in psychiatric care are limited experience and knowledge, unfamiliarity with the instruments, inadequate evaluation criteria, and difficulties in accessing learning content. This project designed improvement strategies by using the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) instructional model. The proposed strategies encompassed implementing mobile learning to increase self-directed learning opportunities, developing instrument operation manuals, and adjusting evaluation criteria. The goal was to improve the accuracy of common instrument operation among psychiatric nursing staff. After the intervention, accuracy of instrument operation increased from 30.5% to 100%. The improvement strategies can be used in other specialty wards to ensure that patients receive safe medical care.
