A STUDY OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LIFE MEANING AND WELL-BEING OF THE EMPLOYEES IN LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES

Well-being represents an individual's overall satisfaction and happiness with one's current status in life. Life meaning is to be self-aware of one's existence and value in order to accomplish life goals with a responsible attitude. Both well-being and life meaning are important indicators of an individual's mental health. Long-term care involves labor-intensive duties, it is a field that involves frequent contact with the elderly in need of hospice care and their family members. Therefore, the mental health of employees in long-term care facilities deserves a lot of attention. This study mailed questionnaires to examine a population of social workers in 123 long-term care facilities in Taiwan, 121 questionnaires were mailed in March 2014, 101 of which were retrieved, yielding a response rate of 83.47%. The results of this study found that social workers in long-term care facilities showed upper intermediate well-being and life meaning. Moreover, a significant positive correlation was also observed in the well-being and life meaning of social workers in long-term care facilities. This suggests that higher perceived well-being is associated with higher perceived life meaning.
