This article discusses the nursing experience over a six-week period of a cancer patient with buccal malignancy and an ulcerative wound. Assessment and data collection were based on Roy's adaptation model addressing aspects of physiological, psychological and social adaptive behavior. The goals of care were to promote patient and family normalcy in daily activities and quality of life quality. Nursing problems were chronic pain, poor skin integrity and social isolation. Nursing interventions included patient and family teaching on palliative care of chronic pain, proper wound management, maintaining physical hygiene and appearance, effective communication skills, and prevention of social withdrawal.
