Emergency preparedness in the healthcare system requires comprehensive planning to minimize its impact. It requires an effective response system from the individual, to family, to the community and to the world at large, in order to integrate both internal and external resources and minimize any damage. The medical institution begins with an assessment of its own vulnerability regarding ability to provide a continuing care environment under different types and a variety of emergencies. A comprehensive response system to provide objectives and guidelines for different stages of hazard should be organized. A control center should provide leadership that is flexible and dynamic, with adjustment based on the level of potential damage, internal capacity to respond and the ability to maintain the institution's self-resilience. Emergency preparedness should be integrated into all levels of response plans, based on the impact of manpower and time. All healthcare professionals need to mobilize resources to provide collaborative and efficient response. All healthcare workers must learn to live with disastrous events.
