The Ministry of Health and Welfare began to promote "two-year post graduate nurses training program (N-PGY2)" in 2007 with the goals to improve nurse preceptor's training and credentialing system, and to cultivate new staff nurse clinical competence. This article describes the literature review and the process on the development of a learner-centered nurse preceptor role, including objective structured clinical examinations (OSCE), creative classroom strategies, e-learning program and reflective learning, etc. Through this complete and systematic training program, nurse preceptors had opportunities to develop advanced teaching roles and responsibilities that resulted in the increased new nurse retention rate and reduction in the hospital training cost.
