Performance Analysis of IPv6 Mobility Management Protocols

摘要


在網際網路中傳統的Mobile IP俱備著漫遊的功能,相對的也面臨著三角路徑的問題(Triangular Routing Problem),使得原本要傳送到行動裝置的封包都必須先行傳送到Home Agent(HA),再由Home Agent(HA)以Tunnel方式轉送到行動裝置目前所在的Foreign Agent(FA),如此長距離的封包傳送路徑將會造成傳送延遲,使得整體的效能大幅降低。在過去Routing Optimization機制能夠針對三角路徑的問題來做改善,但並不是所有網路中的環境都能夠支援。在未來IPv6的環境將成為網際網路中的趨勢,因此我們利用Mobility Management System(MMS)與DNS的系統機制來解決三角路徑的問題。本篇論文將與IETF中所提出的幾個較著名的機制,如Mobile IPv6,Fast Handoff、Hierarchical Mobile IPv6等通訊協定,來做效能上的分析與比較。

The traditional Mobile IP has a routing problem, called as the ”triangle routing” problem. All datagrams destined for a mobile node have to been routed first to its home network, received by a Home Agent, and then tunneled by the Home Agent to the Foreign Agent, where the mobile node can directly connect with. It may have larger latency, higher packet loss, and congestion in the home network. Although many of routing optimization extension schemes in IPv6 networks can solve the problem, the delivery of routing optimization messages in the handoff period may incur long transmission delay, and therefore degrade the performance of routing optimization mechanisms. In addition, all schemes require all mobile nodes and their correspondent nodes involved in mobility management. A mobile node must inform its correspondent node of its roaming and its new location/address. Hence a transparent Mobility Management System was ever proposed without delivering any routing optimization message for a mobile node and its correspondent node. In this paper, the performance of these mibility management protocols is analyzed.
