The purpose of this research is to gain better insight into whether the long-term accumulated physical and mental stress of police officers can be reduced through sports participation, and hence increase work involvement. 360 active police officers serving in the field participated in the survey. By analyzing their sports participation level, Taiwanese depression scale, and work involvement scale, this reseach aims to examine the influence of level of sports participation on the level of depression and on the level of work involvement. The result suggested that 1. The level of participation in sports cannot provide effective prediction on the level of depression. 2. The participation in sports does not have a significant positive correlation with work involvement. 3. The level of depression is positively correlated with work involvement of field police officers. The findings demonstrate that by increasing the level of sports participation combined with other intervine variables, the level of work commitment can be improved. Police units can consider upgrading sports facilities in police stations, combining with other factors, to encourage field police officers to establish habits in sports, improve their physical fitness, and to decrease the degree of depression and improve their work efficiency.
