The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting exercise behavior of second, third and fourth year student at National Taiwan University (NTU). The Theory of Reasoned Action was used as a framework for this study. This study made use of the author's self-compilation ”A Questionnaire on college students' Exercise Behavior and Attitude Toward Physical Education”. During the time period of October to November of 1996, after a survey done by the author himself, 454 effective questionnaires were obtained. The data gained was put through descriptive statistical, factor analysis, pearson product-moment correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis. After discussion and analysis, the following conclusive results were obtained: 1) As many as 96.5% of NTU students took part in sports in their spare time. 2) The major factors blocking students participation in sports were a high studyload, lack of spare time, and a shortage of facilities and equipment. 3) Apart from showing a significant correlation to exercise intention, exercise behavior also indicated a significant correlation to other variables. 4) Exercise intention and the external variables of exercise experience, time factors and social support factors could all significant predict exercise behavior. Exercise intention was the major predictive variable, but can not support completely the Theory of Reasoned Action.
