The purposes of the study were to (1) research the correlations between mamimum pitching velocity and his physique measurements, basic physical ability and pitching skills; (2) select the representative tests of maximum pitching velocity in the predictors mentioned above. One hundred and six male university students served as the subjeats in this investigation. The datas obtained from testing or measuring were analyzed by correlational analysis to know the correlativities in the variables. Furthermore, the stepwise multiple regression was applied to select the representative tests of maximum pitching velocity. The author obtained the following results: 1. The confirmed hypotheses are as follows (1)The most variables of basic physical ability and the whole variables of pitching skills have a significant correlation on the maximum pitching velocity ① On basic physical ability Significant correlation (P<.05) was found between maximum pitching velocity and sargent jump, standing long jump and left hand grips. Significant correlation (P<.01) was also found between maximum pitching velocity and shuttle run and back lift. Significant correlation (P<.001) was also observed between maximum pitching velocity and 50m spring , right hand grips and pull ups. ② On pitching skills Significant correlation (P<.001) was found between maximum pitching velocity and baseball throw for distance and ability to throw at a target. (2)The whole Variables of physique measurements don't have a significant correlation on maximum pitching velocity (P>.05) 2. According to the stepwise multiple regression four items were selected. They are as follow in order: (1) baseball throw for distance (2) ability to throw at a target (3) 50 m sprint (4) length of hand If we use the four selected tests, a multiple regression equation computed for the criterion in the standard score unite is as follow: Zc=0.658726Z18+0.176751Z19-0.150656Z9+0.118241Z5 The equation may also be computed in raw score unites Xc=0.762637X18+0.120865X19-3.910578X9+1.329465X5+48.729946 and the Sc‧18,19,9,5=6.02439; R=0.83610 ((average)R^2=0.69906); R^2=0.68714, F=58.65393, P<.001.
