A Study of the Player Experience and Sports Contribution of the First-generation Female Basketball National Player Bin-bin Huang

The purpose of this study is to explore the life story of Bin-bin Huang, the first-generation female basketball national player in Taiwan. Based on Bin-bin Huang's player experience and long-term devotion to teaching and research in the sports world, this study discussed the rise of female basketball in Taiwan and the changes in sports academic development after WWII. It discussed the exchanges and interactions in sports academia between Taiwan and Japan and Bin-bin Huang's contribution to exercise physiology in Taiwan. This study used the oral history interview method and literature data analysis method, and referred to the event reports in newspapers and related research results at the time. Based on Bin-bin Huang's personal experiences, this study interviewed relevant sports scholars for verification. After many interviews, the content was sorted and written into articles to make up for the historical data. Based on the discussions, this study found that after WWII, Taiwan first implemented the six-a-side female basketball team, and later adopted the five-a-side international rules to conform to the world trend, of which, this process has now become a forgotten history. In the early 1950s, Taiwan began to form the national female basketball team for competitions overseas, and Bin-bin Huang was one of the players. Since the 1970s, the academic exchanges between Taiwan and Japan have increased significantly. In addition to being an interpreter in seminars, Bin-bin Huang was also famous for translating Japanese works in exercise physiology into Chinese. Her contributions to the sports academic development in Taiwan are beyond measurement. Bin-bin Huang was born in the era of the Japanese colonial period and received Japanese education from an early age to establish a solid Japanese ability which was very helpful to her future education work and academic research. She is not only an elder in sports but also has witnessed the budding and growth of female basketball in Taiwan. Moreover, because she has worked diligently in the field of sports academia for a long time, her research and translation works are of excellent quality. This study explored Bin-bin Huang's player experience and her contribution to the sports world. The research results can provide a reference for students in sports-related departments to plan their careers and may also help build a more complete and macroscopic history of sports in Taiwan.
