Since 1985 and 1986, the magazine agency of ”Chinese world” has held a succession of meetings to review the Chinese course of the university. About the reform of Chinese teaching of the university, there have been scholars who successively propose suggestions on the predicament, orientation, goal, teaching material and teaching method, etc, of Chinese teaching from different aspects. It can be said the achievements have been rich during more than twenty years. This paper collects scholars” views and suggestions about Chinese course of the university during 1985-2006, to analyses, interconnected them. This paper also offers and does overall retrospects, and divides them into four major parts: the predicament of Chinese teaching, the orientation and the goal of university Chinese, the selection and the interpretation of teaching material, the teaching method and the measure of the university Chinese. It classifies and marshals the opinions and the doing ways of scholars and experts over the past 20 years and generalize a conclusion from the documents and then proposes suggestions. I hope I can pick the intelligence of predecessors and make it a reference for improving Chinese teaching of the university in the future.
