Surgery can induce a catabolic state and leads to increase cardiac demand, tissue hypoxia, increased insulin resistance, impaired coagulation profiles, altered pulmonary and gastrointestinal function. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery(ERAS) pathways were developed with the goal of early return to normal physiology without increasing postoperative complications or readmissions. The multimodal interventions include preoperative conselling, avoidance of bowel preparation, shorting of fasting, optimal analgesia, prevention of nausea and vomiting, avoidance of drains, early postoperative feeding and mobilization. Successful ERAS pathway implementation of gynecologic care has the potential to improve patient care and health care delivery systems.
