This is the first report of oral form Chinese medicine andrographolide induced acute kidney injury. The present study reports a 51 years old male Taiwanese patient with type 2 diabetes, who had well blood glucose control and no history of chronic kidney disease or proteinuria. He presented with 2 episodes of rapid increased serum creatinine following 2 times of one week of andrographolide (2000-3000 mg/day) taking for fatty liver and decreasing libido. Following 1 week of hospitalized intravenous hydration of normal saline therapy, the patient's serum creatinine and urea nitrogen decreased to within normal ranges respectively. The presentation, clinical course, and prognosis of andrographolide induced acute kidney injury are discussed herein to highlight the importance of early and correct diagnosis and treatment.
