摘要

元曉為韓國華嚴海東宗開山始祖，梁寒衣參照史實，改寫了這位滿腹經綸卻行儀出格的聖者。本題以元曉與義湘一體孿生，卻以菩薩道／解脫道修行模式不同，探討二人既對立又相互融合的組合。以守戒／破戒的對立，探討元曉與瑤石二人面對愛情與宗教戒律的衝突，最後元曉捨戒無我，放下成敗毀譽邁向菩薩道的轉折。元曉早期高座寺院講經為貴族服務，而相對的大安卻著百衲遊行於市井，本是服務貴族／平民對立的修行方式，卻在大安的啟蒙，與元曉人間佛教的胸懷，成就菩薩道，在「無涯歌」的唱誦中，成為一代聖者，承繼了中國唐代狂僧的形象並將佛法落實於民間。
