The Tracking Analysis of Collegiate Students' Physical Fitness Conditions-A Description on the Change of Da-Yeh University Students' Scores from School Year 99 to 101

摘要

The main purpose of this study was to track and investigate Da-Yeh university students' physical fitness conditions (From school year 99-101) and eventually evaluate how physical activity classes improved students' physical conditions. Students who entered Da-Yeh University in the school year of 99 served as the subjects and 958 test scores were collected from the subjects. The test included body composition, flexibility, muscle fitness, agility and cardiovascular fitness. The data collected were statistically analyzed by descriptive, chi-square and paired sample t test methods. The results were as followed: (1) On the BMI analysis, the male students' average score was higher than that of the collegiate average mode and was between 50 to 60 percents. The average score of female students was quite similar to that of the collegiate average mode. There had been increasing number on male students' BMI, but did not reach statistical significance (p>.05). The obesity ratio analysis (BMI≥23)indicated that students being measured in school year 101 was higher than that of students being measured in school year 99 (p>.05). (2) On the flexibility analysis, the average scores of both male and female students were lower than that of the collegiate average mode and were between 25 to 40 percents. There was a tendency to see worse performances as students moved to higher grades. The average scores of both male and female students did not reach statistical significance in the pre and post tests in the school years 99 and 101 (p>.05). (3) On the muscle fitness analysis, the results of both male and female students' one minute sit-up pre and post tests did not reach statistical significance (p>.05), and the average scores were between 55 to 65 percents. The result in each school year was higher than that of collegiate average mode. (4) On the agility analysis, the male students' standing long jump average score placed in the range between 30 to 35 percents and the female students' average score was between 30 to 40 percents. There was not any big change between each school year, but the average score was lower than that of the collegiate average mode. (5) On the cardiovascular fitness analysis, the results of male students' 1600m running and walking test in the school year 99 and 101 were lower than that of the collegiate average mode, which were between 30 to 45 percents. There was a decreasing performance and reached statistically significance (p>.05). In the school year 99, the female students' 800m running and walking test result was superior to that of the collegiate average mode, which was in the range between 50 to 60 percents. In the school year 101, the third grade students' average score was within top 40 percents, which was lower than that of the collegiate average mode and not reaching the statistical significance (p>.05). In conclusion, the students needed to improve their performances on BMI, flexibility, agility and cardiovascular fitness tests since their average scores were below the collegiate average mode. Both male and female students tended to possess better physical conditions in the school year 99 and went down gradually.
