|For more than forty years, researchers have studied Haruki Murakami's literature from different perspectives, including psychoanalysis, cultural symbolism, and cognitive linguistics. At present, there is no lack of discussion of Haruki Murakami's works in terms of "post-earthquake literature. In this essay, the author first identifies "Japanese environmental literature pioneer" Michiko Ishimure's The Pure Land of the Bitter Sea, and then examines the earthquake in After the Quake and Killing Commendatore to explore new possibilities for Murakami's literature from the perspective of environmental literature. Through the perspective of environmental literature, both "Minamata disease" of Michiko Ishimure and "earthquake" of Haruki Murakami can be considered as "continuous and future-related" events. Like Paradise in the Sea of Sorrow, After the Quake and Killing Commendatore can be interpreted as environmental literature that goes beyond criticism of the social system to bring about a "promising future".
