Regional studies should not be limited to an activity that puts focus on a place and promotes its local culture. Our main goal is not to show what represents a place, but to tell people what has happened in our hometowns. The key is to understand a place's history and cultural context. Chinese communities in different regions have been constructing their own cultures based on traditional Chinese cultural elements. Localisation is essential in the process. Their cultures are different from that of ＂China＂ because of cross-cultural interactions and socioeconomic conditions.
