Graphic novel is a form of integrating art, literature and creative expression. It has become a new genre of art and literature influenced by the contemporary trends. The purpose of this paper is to study the relations between the expressive forms and meaning construction of graphic novels. The research unfolds in three aspects: Firstly, it discusses the relations between graphic narratives and meaning construction, and clarifies the characteristics of graphic novels in the category of graphic narratives. Secondly, it analyzes the visual language and expressive form of graphic novels in order to understand how the artists express feelings and construct meanings. The final discussion focuses on the important meanings of graphic novels in contemporary art education, including the practice of art and life, the construction of personal meaning and the expansion of new meaning.
